De Vegetarische Slager heeft vega(n) broodbeleg! In de schappen van de Albert Heijn vind je nu allerlei soorten worst. Maar hoe lekker zijn ze?
De Vegetarische Slager is mijn held. Toen ik net vega was wist ik echt niet hoe ik een standaard AVG’tje moest gaan eten. Gelukkig is er een vega schap vol met lekkere vervangers. Maar wat doe je in godsnaam op je brood? Ook daar heeft de Vegetarische Slager iets op gevonden! In de schappen van de AH vind je naast vleesvervangers, ook broodbeleg.
Al het broodbeleg is gemaakt op basis van soja (yes eiwitten) en de meeste zijn vrij van kunstmatige e-nummers. Nu moet ik zelf zeggen dat ik niet heel bang ben voor e-nummers. Als het maar lekker smaakt. Let’s put it to the test!

Kipworst / € 2,49
Als eerste de kipworst, het lijkt een beetje op kipfilet met tuinkruiden. Helaas is de structuur nogal droog en breekbaar. Een plakje heel op je boterham krijgen is dus nogal wat werk. Maar de smaak is erg goed! Of het nou écht naar kipfilet smaakt, nee dat niet. Maar het heeft wel een soortgelijke smaak. Alleen op brood zou ik hem niet snel eten. Wat mij wel lekker lijkt is als je een wrap maakt met bijvoorbeeld sla, avocado, komkommer en de kipworst. Op zichzelf: mwoah. Deze smaakt wel erg zout. De kipworst is niet vegan.

Italiaanse worst / € 2,49
Ik weet niet of je ook ‘echte’ Italiaanse worst hebt, ik heb het in ieder geval nog nooit gehad. De structuur is hetzelfde als de kipworst, droog en breekbaar. Het smaakt ontzettend sterk naar tomaat en paprika, veel andere kruiden proef ik er echt niet in terug. Lekkerder zou zijn om iets minder paprika en tomaat smaak te proeven en iets meer peper en knoflook. Alsnog wel oke, maar niet iets wat ik snel op mijn boterham zou doen. De Italiaanse worst is niet vegan.

Gelderse worst / € 2,49
Ik heb zelf nog nooit Gelderse worst gehad dus ik wist niet goed wat ik ervan kon verwachten. De Gelderse worst heeft een lekkere smaak, maar niet heel uitgesproken. Het smaakt een beetje naar normale boterhamworst of kipfilet. De structuur is net als de vorige vrij droog en breekbaar. Ik zou hem niet snel op zichzelf eten maar het lijkt me wel lekker op brood met sla of komkommer. De Gelderse worst is niet vegan.

Boterhamworst Provençaal / € 1,99
De Provenςaalse worst is net iets anders dan de vorige soorten. De plakken zijn een stuk groter en voelen gladder aan. Geen scheuren meer in de plakjes! De smaak is ontzettend goed. De kruiden zijn een soort tuinkruiden waardoor het een frisse smaak krijgt. Naar mijn idee lijkt deze het meest op echte boterhamworst. Nostalgie: ik heb echt de neiging om er een plakje augurk in te rollen. Deze bevat wel het meeste zout: 2,8 gram. De Provenςaalse worst is vegan.

Boterhamworst / € 1,99
De boterhamworst ziet er het minst aantrekkelijk uit. Het is echt een plak worst, what you see is what you get zeg maar. Ook deze heeft een gladde structuur waardoor hij niet breekt en easy op je boterham ligt. De boterhamworst is erg lekker en heeft een subtiele rookachtige smaak. Deze worst vind ik zelf het beste gelukt, nadeel is dat het 2,8 gram zout bevat. Leuk weetje: deze is het lekkerste volgens mijn vader, dat zegt wat want hij is erg als het om vega producten gaat.

Conclusie
De smaak van vlees is nauwelijks na te bootsen. Veel vleesvervangers smaken daarom totaal niet naar vlees of überhaupt iets eetbaars. Maar de Vegetarische Slager is het goed gelukt! Je moet nu niet verwachten dat het precies hetzelfde smaakt als normale worst. Maar de structuur, kruiden en smaak doet mij in ieder geval erg denken aan worst. Een nadeel is wel het hoge zout gehalte, per soort zit er tussen de 1,9 tot 2,8 gram zout in. Ter vergelijking, een plakje salami heeft 0,5 gram zout en dat is al “veel”. Dat terzijde, het broodbeleg is ideaal om mee te nemen naar school of als basis voor een wrap/tosti.
Dus als nu iemand vraagt of je worst lust zeg je: “Ja, die van de Vegetarische Slager”.
